2009 Community Mental Health and Addiction Needs Assessment
Through a grant awarded from the Welborn Foundation, Southwestern Healthcare, Inc. contracted with Diehl Evaluation and Consulting Services, Inc. (Diehl Consulting) to conduct an independent Community Mental Health and Addiction Needs Assessment. The study was completed in August 2009.
The purpose of the study was to assess overall needs and strengths associated with mental health and addiction services in Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties. The needs assessment has determined the degree to which priority needs are being met by organizations in the region, as indicated by existing gaps in services provided. As an important distinction, the study is not evaluating the efficiency of individual service providers.
To ensure that the needs assessment was representative of Southwestern Indiana, organizations throughout the four-county area were asked to participate. The goal was to develop a needs assessment report that comprehensively describes the prevalence of mental health issues, provides an inventory and capacity of service providers, and assesses the mental health needs of individuals in the community.
